Bulletin

The solar activity was at very low levels over the past 24 hours. No significant solar flares have been observed. Catania sunspot group 28 (NOAA Active Region 2757) was stable and remained inactive. The solar activity is expected to remain at very low levels in the next 24 hours with quiet flaring conditions.

No Earth-directed coronal mass ejections have been observed in the available coronagraph imagery. The greater than 10 MeV solar proton flux was at nominal levels and is expected to remain so.

In the past 24 hours the solar wind speed remained slightly enhanced under the influence of a negative polarity coronal hole and increased from around 400 to 520 km/s. The total interplanetary magnetic field strength was in the range of within 5-8nT in the beginning of the period and has decreased to below 3nT at 12 UTC today. The Bz component was mostly negative with a minimum value of -7 nT. The solar wind conditions are expected to remain enhanced over the next 24 hours.

Geomagnetic activity has varied from quiet to active with K Dourbes and NOAA Kp indices in the ranges 1-4 and 2-4, respectively. Over the next 24 hours the geomagnetic conditions are expected to be quiet to unsettled. Isolated active periods can be expected as the solar wind remain under the influence of a negative polarity coronal hole which is facilitated by the sustained negative Bz component.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 011, based on 10 stations.
