Bulletin

Solar activity is low with only occasional B-class flares reported during last 24 hours. We expect that solar activity will remain low with B-class and isolated C-class flares possible in the coming hours. The filament eruption, from the north-east quadrant of the Sun, observed at about 02:00 UT this morning was associated with rather narrow CME, and the bulk of the CME mass was directed mostly northward of the Sun-Earth line. This CME will not arrive at the Earth. No Earth directed CMEs have been observed and the solar protons remained at background level in the past 24 hours.

The Earth is still inside the fast solar wind with the speed of about 720 km/s and the interplanetary magnetic field (IMF) magnitude of about 5nT. During last 24 hours the IMF was stable with the value of about 5 nT, and the Bz component of the IMF was fluctuating between -5 and +5 nT. Due to the fast solar wind and the occasional longer intervals of negative value of the Bz component minor storm conditions were reported (Dourbes reported K=5 and NOAA Kp=5) on April 23, at about 17 UT. The geomagnetic conditions are presently unsettled to active and we expect them to stay so in the coming hours. Due to the still rather fast solar wind, longer intervals of the negative value of the Bz component might cause the occasional intervals of minor storm conditions (with the K index going up to 5).

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 045, based on 15 stations.
