Bulletin

Solar flaring activity was at very low levels. No significant flares have been recorded. Solar activity is expected to remain at very low levels.

No Earth directed Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) were observed in the available coronagraphic imagery.

The greater than 10 MeV proton flux was at background levels over the past 24 hours. It is expected to stay at background levels for the next 24 hours. The greater than 2 MeV electron flux was at moderate levels, reaching 918 pfu at Oct 25 01:55UT, as we are still under the influence of the high solar wind speed caused by the High Speed Streams (HSS) originating from the Coronal hole (CH) crossing Central Meridian (CM) on Oct 19. It is expected to increase further in the 24 hours.

The speed of the solar wind remained enhanced, varying between 515 and 595 km/s (DSCOVR), caused by the presence of the HSS originating from the CH crossing CM on Oct 19. The polarity of the Interplanetary Magnetic Field (IMF) was predominantly away from the Sun (phi angle to positive sector). Bz fluctuated between -5 and +3 nT. The magnitude of the magnetic field varied between 1 and 7 nT. Over the next 24 hours, the solar wind parameters are expected to remain at those levels, as additional effects of the HSS from the CH crossing CM on Oct 22 can be expected.

The geomagnetic conditions were active (K Dourbes=4). The values registered for the past 24 hours were 0-4 for K Dourbes and 2-3 for NOAA Kp. Unsettled to active conditions, with a possibility of a minor storm, are expected for the next 24 hours.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 016, based on 14 stations.
