Bulletin

Over the past 24 hours solar activity has been very low. No significant flares have been recorded. Active Region (AR) 12670 (Mcintosh class:Hsx; Mag. type:Alpha) has been most active, producing a few B-class flares. However, AR 12670 has shown some evidence of flux emergence and cancellation in HMI magnetogram observations, which may result in flaring activity. No Earth directed Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) have been detected. The greater than 10MeV proton flux remained at background levels over the past 24 hours. Solar activity is expected to remain low over the next 24 hours with a low probability of C-class flares. The solar wind speed has decreased from around 650 to 500 km/s over the past 24 hours. The total magnetic field strength has remained around 5 nT. The Bz component fluctuated around 0 nT, ranging between -4 and +3 nT. Geomagnetic conditions ranged between Kp index 1-4 (NOAA) and local K index 0-4 (Dourbes) over the past 24 hours. There is currently a small positive polarity Northern polar coronal hole extending to lower latitudes located in the Western hemisphere and the resulting high-speed stream (HSS) may enhance solar wind speeds for a short period over the coming days. Geomagnetic conditions are expected to be quiet, with the possibility of a small enhancement later today or early tomorrow.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 011, based on 17 stations.
