A full halo Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) left the Sun around 12 UTC on 9 November. The CME was the result of a filament eruption close to the center of the earth-facing solar disk.

Wow! Now that was what you call an almighty storm! Two distinct coronal mass ejection arrivals yesterday sparked a geomagnetic storm that peaked at the strong G3 (Kp7) level. This sparked spectacular and vivid aurora displays which were seen from all over Europe, southern parts of Australia and New Zealand. We admit that we were actually surprised by how far south in Europe people were spotting the aurora. We have seen images from pretty much every European country and even as far south as Turkey! Yes! Turkey! Incredible stuff! This amazing aurora display is yet another example of why you need to remain vigilant during coronal mass ejection arrivals! You never know when that chance comes that you will be able to spot the aurora from your own back yard or balcony!

It feels like it was ages ago that we made a news article where we talked about a good-old reliable coronal hole but today is the day as we actually have a fairly large coronal hole facing our planet today!

Solar activity has been really low the past few months, much lower than one would expect this close to solar maximum. Strange as Solar Cycle 25 started of with a very decent amount of solar activity signaling that Solar Cycle 25 would likely surpass Solar Cycle 24 in terms of strength. So where are we right now? Did we pass solar maximum? Is this a temporary lull? Is Solar Cycle 25 maybe not going to be as strong as Solar Cycle 24? A new experimental model from the NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC) might provide an answer...

A long duration M1.2 solar flare took place around departing sunspot region 3413 yesterday which peaked around 03:52 UTC. This event launched a coronal mass ejection into space which could arrive at Earth in two days time. This would be the second coronal mass ejection that is expected to arrive at our planet in the coming days. After a very quiet August a promising start to September as darkness returns to the northern hemisphere!

Solar protons reached the moderate S2 threshold today for the second time this solar cycle. Moderate S2 solar radiation storms will cause problems with HF radio communications at polar latitudes and have a minor impact on some types of satellite services, This is all due to the highly eruptive M4.1 solar flare from the west limb which peaked at 15:58 UTC yesterday. This solar flare launched an impressive coronal mass ejection but it is not aimed at Earth.

We are in a period with some higher space weather activity as two coronal mass ejections arrived at Earth during the past few days causing multiple periods with minor G1 geomagnetic storm conditions. Despite the short nights, weak aurora was spotted as far south as the Netherlands! Today's highlight is however the strong M5.7 solar flare from sunspot region 3363 which peaked at 00:06 UTC.

Welcome to July! A month where both our American and French friends celebrate very important holidays with lots of celebrations and fireworks! Our Sun thought it would be a good idea to join in on the celebrations as we have a new sunspot region (AR3372) announcing its presence near the north-east limb with regular M-class solar fireworks, some of these flare have even exceeded the M5 (R2-moderate) threshold like the M6,8 solar flare that took place today and peaked at 08;55 UTC.

Sunspot region 3354 departs with a major X1.0 solar flare (R3-strong) yesterday at 23:14 UTC as it approaches the west limb.

That was unexpected! Incoming sunspot region 3341 produced an X1.1 solar flare (R3-strong) that peaked yesterday at 17:09 UTC. It has almost been 3 months since the last time we had an X-class solar flare and we have to admit getting an X-flare was unexpected!
