Coronal hole faces Earth

No signs of a shock passage yet. It might be too early to write it off as a total miss as the low energy protons measured by EPAM remain elevated but it remains very doubtful we will see much of a shock passage.

Some other exciting coronal hole news: a trans equatorial portion of the northern hemisphere polar coronal hole is now facing Earth and an enhanced solar wind stream should arrive in about 3 days from now. It could cause minor G1 geomagnetic storming conditions on Wednesday, 6 January.

Any mentioned solar flare in this article has a scaling factor applied by the Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC), the reported solar flares are 42% smaller than for the science quality data. The scaling factor has been removed from our archived solar flare data to reflect the true physical units.
