Gorgeous filament eruption

A very pretty filament eruption took place yesterday on the Sun's south-western quadrant. It caused an X-ray enhancement that reached the C1 threshold.

A minor coronal mass ejection was launched but SOHO coronagraph imagery confirms that the cloud of solar plasma will head well south-west of our planet, and no impact is to be expected. It still was a very pretty eruption, this video from the NASA Solar Dynamics Observatory (above) is well worth the watch! 

Animation: SOHO LASCO C2 imagery confirms that this coronal mass ejection is unlikely to arrive at Earth.

Any mentioned solar flare in this article has a scaling factor applied by the Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC), the reported solar flares are 42% smaller than for the science quality data. The scaling factor has been removed from our archived solar flare data to reflect the true physical units.
