M1.1 solar flare from sunspot region 2157

It took a little while but sunspot region 2157 produced it's second strong solar flare since rotating onto the earth-facing solar disk. It was the source of an M1.1 solar flare at 17:09 UTC.

Sunspot region 2157 is not yet in a great position for any CMEs to be earth-directed but that will change in the coming days as it rotates towards the center of the Earth-facing solar disk.

A quick look at sunspot region 2157 and 2158 reveals that both of these regions have magnetic delta layouts and more M-class flaring from either region is possible in the coming days, with a slight chance of an isolated X-class event.

Any mentioned solar flare in this article has a scaling factor applied by the Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC), the reported solar flares are 42% smaller than for the science quality data. The scaling factor has been removed from our archived solar flare data to reflect the true physical units.
