Solar activity report

Any mentioned solar flare in this report has a scaling factor applied by the Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC). Because of the SWPC scaling factor, solar flares are reported as 42% smaller than for the science quality data. The scaling factor has been removed from our archived solar flare data to reflect the true physical units.

IA. Analysis of Solar Active Regions and Activity from 01-2100Z to 02-2100Z

Solar activity was moderate. Region 17 (S18W51) produced an M1/1f flare at 02/2031Z. This region grew quite significantly in the last 24 hours, tripling in white light size to over 420 millionths in a beta-gamma configuration. Region 19 (S18E34) has decayed somewhat, but continues to produce occasional minor C-class flares. New Region 20 (N01E63) was numbered today.
IB. Solar Activity Forecast
Solar activity is expected to continue at low to moderate levels. Regions 17 and 19 have potential to produce isolated M-class flares.

The geomagnetic field was quiet to unsettled.

The geomagnetic field is expected to continue at quiet to unsettled levels with isolated active periods at high latitudes through day one.
