Solar activity report

Any mentioned solar flare in this report has a scaling factor applied by the Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC). Because of the SWPC scaling factor, solar flares are reported as 42% smaller than for the science quality data. The scaling factor has been removed from our archived solar flare data to reflect the true physical units.

Joint USAF/NOAA Report of Solar and Geophysical Activity

SDF Number 346 Issued at 2200Z on 12 DEC 1998

IA. Analysis of Solar Active Regions and Activity from 11-2100Z to 12-2100Z

SOLAR ACTIVITY WAS LOW. ONLY MINOR C-CLASS X-RAY EVENTS OCCURRED DURING THIS PERIOD. THE MOST ACTIVE REGIONS WERE 8404 (S22W77), 8408 (S18E01), AND 8409 (S29E13). ALL OF WHICH PRODUCED MINOR C-CLASS X-RAYS EVENTS AND OPTICAL SUBFLARES. REGION 8408 HAS GROWN SIGNIFICANTLY SINCE YESTERDAY. CURRENTLY IT IS A 19 SPOT DSO BETA-GAMMA GROUP. REGION 8411 HAS ALSO SHOWN AN INCREASE IN SIZE AND NUMBER OF SPOTS, CURRENTLY A 5 SPOT CSO BETA GROUP.
IB. Solar Activity Forecast
SOLAR ACTIVITY IS EXPECTED TO REMAIN LOW WITH CONTINUED C-CLASS EVENTS. THERE IS A SLIGHT CHANCE OF AN ISOLATED M-CLASS EVENT.
IIA. Geophysical Activity Summary 11-2100Z to 12-2100Z
THE GEOMAGNETIC FILED WAS UNSETTLED EARLY IN THE PERIOD AND HAS SINCE BEEN QUIET.
IIB. Geophysical Activity Forecast
THE GEOMAGNETIC FIELD IS EXPECTED TO BE QUIET TO UNSETTLED.
