Marcel de Bont
Webcams page The webcams or all-sky cameras page has been updated a little while ago. Broken URLs were removed and new ones are added. We also ranked the cameras according to where they are in the world. Click on the country you like and a drop down will collapse and show you the cameras. Do you know of a northern lights/aurora camera that isn't listed. Let us know! Magnetometers page The magnetometers page was also updated with some little more background information about the magnetometers and the CANadian Magnetic Observatory System was added. TheCANadian Magnetic Observatory System also replaced the North American stack plot on the front page. Under the hood we added some tweaks to ensure that large graphs are displayed better on smaller resolutions.
Vancanneyt Sander
Happy new year everyone!Read our news post for a quick look back at 2018. We ended 2018 with making work of some refactoring and now the live graphs will load dynamically upon loading the site, no need to refresh the page anymore! Another New year's gift is something new in our app (available on Android and iOS). In the menu 'Auroral activity' when you click on 'Auroral oval' you'll get a big map to view the latest ovation model. It’s now easier than ever to view the ovation model on your mobile device. Marcel de Bont
STEREO page changes We have made some minor improvements to the STEREO page. STEREO is a mission consisting of two space craft in an orbit around the Sun. STEREO Ahead is in an orbit slightly faster than Earth's orbit and STEREO Behind is an orbit slightly slower than Earth's orbit around the Sun and this causes the space craft to slowly drift apart. STEREO Behind has unfortunately suffered a malfunction back in 2014 so there is currently no real time data coming from this space craft. We removed anything related to STEREO Behind from the STEREO page as its unnecessary to feature a set of blank images. Should NASA be able to recover STEREO Behind in the future we will of course bring back the data from STEREO Behind to the STEREO page. New on the page is a graph with Real Time Solar Wind data from STEREO Ahead. Just like DSCOVR, the STEREO mission has instruments on board (PLASTIC and IMPACT) to measure the composition of the solar wind and strength/direction of the interplanetary magnetic field at the space craft. Due to the location of STEREO Ahead, this data is of great use to see what kind of space weather conditions we could expect from any incoming coronal holes days in advance. We use this data a lot when we estimate the strength of any incoming coronal hole solar wind streams when writing the news. Minor tweaks but we hope you enjoy these changes. Vancanneyt Sander
Users of the Safari browser on a Mac desktop with MacOS Majave 10.14.4 (released March 26th) will notice that the main website can look a bit different when dark mode is enabled on your Mac. When you enable dark mode on your Mac (system preferences --> general), the website will be turned into dark mode (except the community forum). Vancanneyt Sander
A new page has emerged on SpaceWeatherLive, GOES imagery has got it's own page and will be accessible through the "Solar activity" menu on the main site. https://www.spaceweatherlive.com/en/solar-activity/solar-images/goes For Estionian users we also have good news. The Esteonian translator, @AhtoA, has been busy with translating the help section and the main jhelp page is now done with several help articles. Go check those out and a big cheers to @AhtoA for his work.
Vancanneyt Sander
We've made some improvements to the dark mode in the app, it should be way faster now and more responsive. The dark mode for Mac OS also got further improvements for better graph display.
Vancanneyt Sander
The solar flare page got a little extension with the backup satellite data being added to the graph. If you've wondered why this graph is dark, this screenshot was taken in Safari oen a Mac with dark mode enabled. .
Kaimbridge
Ya know, I was going to suggest adding the secondary data! P=) Are you going to add it to the archive page, too? Also regarding the archive page, why not add the maximum flux for that day, either as a numerical statement (like the background flux) and/or as a line on the graph, at its time location, like you have been doing with the flares, and mark it as "max flux"—and if there is/are flare(s), you can just mark the largest as the "max flux"? Regarding the background, I normally use dark mode (easier on the eyss): Is there a way to add a light/dark background mode option, or just make it a gray background, no matter which mode you are in? Only the app has a switch. The site only enables dark mode when Mac OS has it enabled and can be turned on/off there. Other browsers currently don’t have it build into it because it’s a new web standard.
Vancanneyt Sander
Op 29/4/2019 om 20:26, Kaimbridge zei: Are you going to add it to the archive page, too? Secondary GOES satellite data is now being archived daily so you'll be able to see the secondary X-ray flux there too. Max flux of the day is also added to the graph. As an extra desert we've added 4 years of secondary x-ray data to the archive... think that should be enough

Vancanneyt Sander
SpaceWeatherLive is a multilingual website available in 11 languages. Most are up to date, except Polish and German. Starting today we'll start testing our latest code update involving alerts that are sent to many users who have our SpaceWeatherLive app installed or have subscribed through browser alerts on the site. We'll be sending alerts into different languages besides English. First up are Dutch, Spanish, Estonian, French and Swedish and more languages will follow when our voluntary translators contribute their translation. Although we tested our changes a lot, there could be some bugs when alerts are going out, but we hope that's not the case and everybody will receive them. Vancanneyt Sander
On Android we fixed a few bugs after the initial 1.1 release where the app could crash on older devices after purchasing subscription. For iOS we updated the app to match iOS 13 dark mode settings. The app now adapts to the system setting of iOS. If you enable dark mode on iOS, it will be like that in the app as well! If you set it to automatic on iOS, the app will switch automatically as well. How convenient 👍

Vancanneyt Sander
time for some updates! We have done a lot in the background and put a lot of effort into improving multiple aspects of the site and app. It’s nothing you can see immediately but we know it enhances the speed and delivery of content. Goes-16 is live and is also made available on SpaceWeatherLive and included in the archive. Swpc still has some migration to do that we’ll be monitoring. We’ve made some updates to the solar flare page, you’ll still see the last 24 hours in the graph but you can scroll back to the two days before. Below the graph is a extra window with an overview of the past few days with a slider to go back and forth in time. Also added a few zoom buttons to allow quickly zooming in on a period, you can then navigate through the slider below the graph. on our solar cycles page, we updated the view as well, instead of showing all cycles compressed in the default view (without using pinch to zoom) we now show the latest 5 cycles. Below you still see all cycles in a smaller navigator window where you can slide through the cycles. You can also use the zoom buttons to see less or more cycles in one view. pinch to zoom is still working like before. We also fixed an issue on the forum where topics with embedded content couldn’t be posted. later this week we’ll publish an update to the app for iOS and Android with some updates to background components and fixes a crash after receiving an alert. On android we’ll push the version up number so it’s equal as the iOS version. Older versions of the app will show a notification if your app version isn’t up to date. we have seen multiple users using older versions and those versions don’t have all current features and fixes. Always keep your apps up to date So expect to see 1.2.2 later this week on the Apple store and Google Play store.
Vancanneyt Sander
We published an app update, version 1.2.3 on iOS and Android. It ads the ability to switch to another language than the system language. You’ll find it in the app menu under settings -> choose language. with the new translation platform we also added some links to it in the language selector and on our about page. We thank all current and new translators with their amazing work!
Vancanneyt Sander
The solar wind and interplanetary magnetic field page with data of the past 24h got an overhaul. To make it more easy to view data without scrolling, we arranged the graphs into tabs for easy switching between the parameters.

Marcel de Bont
A little while ago we removed some what I would say non critical information on the Solar Activity side of the home page to make the page a little bit more compact especially for mobile devices. The regions due to return section was removed from the Sunspot regions card on the home page and so was the Events on the Sun today section on the solar flares card. Solar flares page Secondary effect of this small optimization was the addition of the Today's Sun card on the solar flares page as well as bringing the Events on the Sun today card higher up the page just below the solar flares graph. Sunspot regions page On the sunspot regions page we added a card for the Sunspot regions (for a quick overview) and Today's Sun just to get all the information in one spot. Aurora forecast page On the aurora forecast page we added the Probability forecast and Kp-index forecast cards which you might recognize from the front page. Vancanneyt Sander
In the past week we've done some major work behind the scenes to make SpaceWeatherLive faster and better reachable. The majority of our site is now spread over +40 locations worldwide and this would greatly improve the speed of the site to vistors who visit us from locations far from our main server. Also it helps us to keep the site online during traffic spikes, with the site and app getting more and more popular we have to be prepared for that. We had some hickups along the road but all should work now.
