Isatsuki San
Sorry if you disturb, I want to ask about the solar filaments, if a long filament erupts, what could it cause against the earth? In addition to a cme, are fillamentros if erupting dangerous? Edited February 9, 2021 by Isatsuki San
Vancanneyt Sander
Filament eruptions can cause a CME. A part of the material comes back on the sun after the filament eruption, phenomenon known as coronal rain. Some big filament eruptions can cause a strong geomagnetic storm on Earth but nothing serious. also it gives superb imagery on LASCO and other great shots from SDO.
Drax Spacex
There's an interesting "something" extending from the solar disk past the SE limb. Figuratively, it looks like an elephant's trunk or a tornado. Yet to be seen whether it will detach or recede back into the sun. In its present state, would this be called a filament or a prominence? Vancanneyt Sander
It’s a nice filament that would give nice images if it snaps. ps: if it’s a loop, it’s a prominence; if not it’s a filament 😉 1
Isatsuki San
