I wonder why is space so big , when we only need earth and the sun and Jupiter to keep the other planets and stuff from smashing us.... Do we need like all the galaxies in just the rite places and stuff to keep them all from like crashing in to our galaxy and stuff? like we only need earth to live, so like why is there so much wasted space? like all the stuff out there wow!!! So big but devoid of life how inefficient its not very green is it. Shame on you space! So wasteful!  I'm scared of space its dark and scary always trying to suck all the warmth out of our planet! Why is it so violent and mean to us? And with the black holes! why always with the black holes everywhere does space hate us? why so mean space!

You ask us why space is so scary, but you already know the answer — it's big and unknown; therefore, it scares us. We still can't fully explore the Solar system and can't send people to Mars...We know that the approximate number of galaxies is 2 trillion. People just don't know what expects them. That's why they are scared, and it's okay👌. Well, as for the scale of our Universe, there's no definitive answer. We have certain biases and expectations as to how big the Universe should be. But what if we throw them away? Scientists state that the size of our Universe also depends on the physical constants. Finally, all we have to do is to put up with it.🥴

It might be even bigger, because we only know about our galaxie and cannot even assume how much galaxies exist. As Jacob already mentioned and made a really a good answer to your question there are a lot of unknown stuff in space we don`t know and this unknown scares us.

It does seem like a huge waste of space, doesn't it?  But the probability of you or me ever experiencing this vast emptiness of space with a trip to Mars, the Moon, or even to a space station in Earth orbit is, well, astronomical.  You could instead comfortably view the Earth as a cozy place custom-made for plants, animals, and us (Genesis 1), insulated from the stark emptiness of space.  And the night sky, an exquisite planetarium full of wonder, made for both our enjoyment and practical utility - "The eminent benefit of astronomy is the better navigation it creates to enable the fruit-ships to bring home their lemons and wine to the London grocer." (Emerson)

The space is so big that we always have something to study, explore and where to travel. Huge opportunities will open up for humanity when we learn to use them. The first private mission to the Moon and back is planned for 2023. Dear Moon. They recently announced that they will select 8 passengers from all over the world. Try to apply. Maybe you are lucky, you will fly and will no longer be afraid of space.

There are a lot of things in space we don`t know. We have never visited other planet ( I mean crewed missions ) So I guess that is the point that makes scary a lot of people. Nobody knows what`s going on exactly on other planets in the solar system. Besides, nobody knows exactly how many galaxies exists
