solar wind stream data

Recommended Posts

hi, I went to look at the solar wind on your site just now and the real time stats and noticed the density had dropped out yesterday right around 12:00 . (see first screenshot)

I wanted to see the whole day, so I went to look in the archives, and the data is missing. the data is also missing on their site: http://www.swpc.noaa.gov/products/real-time-solar-wind which gets the data from a json file located here: http://services.swpc.noaa.gov/products/solar-wind/

it seems like your real-time solar wind data is actually more correct than the archives. so, my question is, where do you get the real-time data from? this isn't the first time I've noticed discrepancies between what the real-time graph, and then later the archives showing something different

cheers!

Thank you for your report. Well look into it more detailed this evening.

Live data is relatively unfiltered and not finalised data. Normally SWPC does some post processing which causes differences in archived data and real-time data.

What I can say is that our live data is handled differently from the archived version. Meaning that if NOAA decides that data is invalid and removes it from their files, it will still be in our live data. In the archived version that isn’t the case. So source is same, but method is differently

right. where can I access the live data?

I looked at the real-time plot data source is inline data, so that means your server is getting it from somewhere and printing it as a javascript array. I suppose I could parse your page every time, but it seems it would be nicer to just figure out where the unfiltered data is located and directly use that.

maybe we can work together, cause I wanted to make a dynamically loading plot, where data is loaded dynamically depending where you are looking (eg. instead of having to go back and select the previous day, it could be seen as a continuous graph)

Because it isn't anymore on the SWPC json data feed, it isn't available anymore. Our live data gets overwritten, only the last 12 hours are in there because normally the rest would be in our archive. ACE data is available (see attachement) but also has a data gap, but not that big. DSCVR data can be obtained from https://www.ngdc.noaa.gov/dscovr/portal/index.html#/
