Michel Fries
Has anyone already tried to use these new animated pictures available on the recent iPhone system for example with an aurora borealis? I remember being in Rovaniemi with my old Nikon digital cam using long exposures. When I see what the smartphones are able to do under low lights conditions, they could do a good job! Vancanneyt Sander
You mean the Live Photos that you can set on an iPhone as wallpaper? Although the iPhone has a good sensor, you still need a tripod and an exposure time of multiple seconds to really catch the aurora on a picture itself and have a quality that would be superb to display. As a Live Photo is a mini movie of 1.5 seconds, it's probably not looking that great if you shoot it. I'm guessing there are some apps in the App Store to make a Live Photo based on some video you have on your camera roll.
Valerie Vasquez Lieberman
I got some pretty decent pictures on my LG G5 cell phone that I made tons of animations or GIFS of the Northern Lights when we were in Fairbanks and North Pole for 8 nights in October 2017. Even got good pics from the flight! Now I'm learning a lot more to use my phone in manual mode shooting JPEG/RAW to get even better pictures with less noise for next time.. Will upload some for you to see when I get home.
