  1. Well I do have to correct 😉 second strongest is also in 2001 (March 31st) with Bt maxed at 72nT (Bz min -47,41nT). Third place, also 2001 (November 24th) Bt maxed at 70,81 (Bz min -49,29). your date is at 11th place in the top 10 since 1996. True, ACE was knocked out several times during the strongest storms (especially during proton storms). I still remember those days. We had the MTOF monitor (instrument on SOHO) as a bit of a backup to have an indication of solar wind speed but it was with great delay.

No prediction is accurate 😜 there will always be an uncertainty in any prediction of plus and minus 6 hours of the predicted arrival times and even then it can defer a lot. the link you’ve mentioned is for scientific use and is experimental where several forecasters input their forecast. It can give you a hint of a possible arrival time but as always: CME arrivals are a waiting game as predictions have a big uncertainty.
  4. Soon available: We'll show the running mean sunspot number of the past 30 days and compare it with the previous 30 day period.
  5. Not a bug, only wrong initial input of the SWPC. We retrieve the sunspot data from SWPC and import it in our database, we update our database every hour to retrieve updates and newly assigned regions. So the initial wrong input of SWPC was updated by them shortly after they have published it and a short while after we checked for updates and the wrong information was then updated in our database. Once caches of SWL were refreshed you see the corrected values.

  7. GONG has been added, it will be updated every hour but it’s usually updated each 12 hours by GONG and occasionally updated so we update it every hour just to be safe. We haven’t added SDO as it might be bit more difficult for novices/beginners to understand it.
  8. When tapping on "More data" below the oval map you'll now see an extended version of the Hemispheric power graph that spans 3 days. By default it's zoomed onto the last 6 hours. On the solar activity page, STEREO farside map has been removed as the satellite isn't seeing the farside of the Sun anymore. It is replaced by the NSO/GONG calibrated farside map. The info button will tell you more about this map.

Well it could have taken 8 hours because I should be sleeping for an hour now as I have to get up early for work… it was now fixed in 10 minutes and you where lucky I was just going to bed when @Marcel de Bont notified me. Keep in mind we do this in our free time besides our main job so we aren’t here 24/7 an extra check is in place if SWPC forgets to input the location again…

  12. Images from mars, that’s even further away and not a good source for good solar imagery… the lack of big farside eruptions says enough, none of the farside regions are eruptive so don’t expect huge complex regions because of that. Simple…
  13. Who says it is bigger? We don’t have any satellite on the far side of the sun so there’s no way of knowing! there haven’t been major farside CMEs so activity on the farside isn’t huge. our grid is protected to withstand the ground induced currents produced during extreme geomagnetic storming. conclusion: NOTHING to worry about!
