Question about portal and IMF?

"Magnetospheric Multiscale Mission (MMS) is due to launch on 2014", I would like to know on whether this project launches recently or not, since the video is published on 2012.
Referring to following linked video around (1:00), they mention that the Portals open and close thousands of time on each day. I would like to know on where to find this records on Portals' activity.

Hidden Portals in Earth's Magnetic Field

"The IMF is a vector quantity with three directional components, two of which (Bx and By) are oriented parallel to the ecliptic. The third component--Bz--is perpendicular to the ecliptic and is created by waves and other disturbances in the solar wind. When the IMF and geomagnetic field lines are oriented opposite or "antiparallel" to each other, they can "merge" or "reconnect," resulting in the transfer of energy, mass, and momentum from the solar wind flow to magnetosphere The strongest coupling --with the most dramatic magnetospheric effects-- occurs when the Bz component is oriented southward. The IMF is a weak field, varying in strength near the Earth from 1 to 37 nT, with an average value of ~6 nT."

I would like to know on whether there is any forecast on Bz component or not.

Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions

Magnetic reconnection in the magnetotail of the Earths magnetic field is a common thing, the exact workings are yet to be fully understood. That's why scientist plan such missions.

For more information about the mission you can visit and explore the website of the scientific mission which also gives an explanation of the phenomenon.

http://mms.gsfc.nasa.gov

See also this press release: http://phys.org/news/2014-05-nasa-magnetospheric-multiscale-mission-d.html

PS.: there is no forecast for the direction of the IMF, it's unrelated to the magnetic field of the Earth. IMF is the interplanetary magnetic field.
