Synopsis Auroral Activity chances

Moderate (G2) geomagnetic storming conditions have been observed over the past hours thanks to what looked like a second CME transient hitting around 02:09 UTC. Aurorae has been reported from many places near the US-Canadian border. It is unclear if this second ICME was associated with the filament eruption from June 4 or if it was from a separate event.

Solar wind and IMF conditions remain elevated as the CME passes Earth. The direction of the IMF (Bz) went southward just moments ago following a long period of northward Bz. The Bt fell down from strong levels (25nt+) to near moderate levels of 14nT. These values can often change rapidly so keep an eye on the latest data. Geomagnetic storming remains possible in the hours ahead and it is possible that sky watchers on the southern island of New Zealand and the southern tip of Victoria, Australia are in for a possible auroral displays.
