Marcel de Bont
SpaceWeatherLive Solar Activity Update November 19th 2013 - 17:15 UTC Active Region 1893 erupted this morning with an X1.0 solar flare which peaked at 10:26 UTC. This region is currently close the western limb. Below you can watch a video of the event and we got some imagery: http://www.spaceweatherlive.com/community/uploads/monthly_11_2013/post-94-0-81189000-1384880933.pnghttp://www.spaceweatherlive.com/community/uploads/monthly_11_2013/post-94-0-13892900-1384880934.png https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=548614068558851 A Coronal Mass Ejection was launched but the reaction from EPAM has been disappointing as of yet which suggests the Coronal Mass Ejection might not have an Earth-directed component. We are still awaiting for LASCO footage for a more thorough analysis. Below an image of the CME from STEREO Ahead. The primary >10MeV solar protons are currently elevated but still below storm levels. It is still possible that the S1 space radiation storm level will be reached. The current proton levels:
Vancanneyt Sander
Looking at latest imagery, the CME appears not to be Earth directed, no impact is expected. The greater than 10MeV solar protons are gradually decreasing and will not reach storm level.
Marcel de Bont
SpaceWeatherLive Solar Activity Update November 21, 2013 - 11:30 UTC Active Region 1893 says farewell with a long duration M1.23 (R1-minor) solar flare which peaked today at 11:11 UTC. This region is already behind the western limb so the flare was likely stronger than the M1.23 observed here near Earth by the GOES XRS instrument. If this flare produces a Coronal Mass Ejection, it will certainly not be Earth-directed. http://www.spaceweatherlive.com/community/uploads/monthly_11_2013/post-94-0-67642700-1385033549.jpghttp://www.spaceweatherlive.com/community/uploads/monthly_11_2013/post-94-0-92787300-1385033571.pnghttp://www.spaceweatherlive.com/community/uploads/monthly_11_2013/post-94-0-34943900-1385033572.png
