Marcel de Bont
2 uren geleden, Engelsman Finland zei: getting different data here... Everywhere else is saying different to KP etc Explain? The main sources for the Kp-index are the Wing-Kp index (that we use) and the Planetary K-index from NOAA here http://www.swpc.noaa.gov/products/planetary-k-index They unfortunately do not always match, that is correct. Guest Engelsman Finland
Spaceweather had a kp of 5 http://www.aurora-service.eu/aurora-forecast/ and http://www.softservenews.com/ had a kp of around 3 it was the first time I had noticed they all did not match.. Being -25 here I like to double check before going out.
Marcel de Bont
Both of the sites you mention there use the Wing-Kp as well. They use the predicted Wing Kp index and that fluctuates every 15 minutes. It is not an observed value. Just predicted. I do not know what space weather uses. Guest Engelsman Finland
Thanks.. Usually every one matches up. Which helps me. Do you get the observed from Sweden? Or? I still have to say you do an outstanding thing here. And the small CME gave a lot of bang, time and chances to photograph northern lights. thanks. Marcel de Bont
The observed Kp that we use comes from the Wing Kp index. The Wing Kp-index provides both a predicted as an observed Kp value. We use both. The two sites mentioned before only use the predicted value.
